About Anambra State Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health is the primary oversight body for the health sector in Anambra State, responsible for coordinating all health-related activities to ensure the delivery of quality, affordable, and equitable healthcare services to the population.
The Ministry's work encompasses policy formulation, health system strengthening, disease prevention and control, regulation of health facilities and professionals, and the supervision of various healthcare agencies and boards. It collaborates with federal agencies, development partners, and stakeholders to drive health promotion in a multi-sectoral way, improve public health emergency preparedness, and expand access to maternal and child health services.
Through strategic planning, evidence-based policies, and investment in health workforce development, the Ministry contributes to the Government's broader objective of building a prosperous and healthy Anambra State

Commissioner for Health
Dr. Afam Ben Obidike
Commissioner for Health
Dr. Afam Ben Obidike is the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Anambra State. He provides political and strategic leadership for the Ministry's health agenda, with a focus on expanding access to quality healthcare, strengthening health system resilience, and promoting preventive healthcare across the State.
Since assuming office, he has emphasised workforce development, having overseen the employment of over 1,500 health workers. He has also championed the expansion of Universal Health Coverage, the advancement of digital health and telemedicine, and increased domestic financing for health through agencies like the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).
Dr. Obidike remains committed to partnering with the First Lady's office to expand access to health education, screening, and wellness programmes in communities across the state. His leadership continues to drive the state's commitment to building a health system that is inclusive, resilient, and driven by science
